Dell XPS 13 Full Hd 2013 Review

Dell has launched its cut-edge Windows 8 notebook called DELL XPS 13, this time with a full HD display. We have already known about the previous Dell XPS 13, but this is something new and worthy notebook to choose. We find all the aspects similar to the previous edition, let us find out in what way it differs from the older one and seeks user attraction.

Outlook :

This comes up with a flawless design that is same as the older XPS 13; the difference goes only in the internal parts. The solid aluminum body has the same dimensions as 12.4 inches in width, 8.1 inches in height and the thickness varies from 0.24 inches-0.71 inches. The carbon fiber present under the notebook gives us a good grip to handle it and to place it.

This is one of the light weight notebooks in the present years that weigh only about 1.36 kg. On the whole it comes out with a good finishing, the built-in magnesium deck is even better around the key board and the thin aluminum line throughout the keyboard seems to be good looking. The front part is equipped with a 13 inch large screen above with a 1.3 MP web cam that is best fit for the video calling.

Keyboard and Touchpad :

The 13 inches Chiclet type keyboard is one of the standard features in XPS 13. The key placement is fine and is comfortable for the users to work on the keyboard. The slight concaved shape keys make the fingers to rest on the keys in a most comfortable way. The back lightning feature helps the users to use the keyboard even in dark without any problem.

The Cypress glass touch pad that measure almost about 3.9 inches wide and 2.4 inches tall is powered with multi touch system. Though it is not the top notch feature it works better and can be improved with the driver update.

Ports and Connectors :

We see this aspect as a little disappointing thing in the new XPS, the absence of all the essential and advanced features like SD card slot, HDMI port and optical drive disappoints the users. The remaining things like the power jack, head phone jack along with mic jack, the mini display port and two 3.0 USB ports fitted on either sides of the device.

The connectivity features include the 802.11n WI-FI connectivity and the Bluetooth connectivity but we find no Ethernet connectivity that may not be a good thing to see.

Display :

The first best thing about the new Dell XPS 13 is its HD quality resolution display; the 13 inch screen is powered with 1920×1080 pixel resolution that is more than enough for the screen of that size. The IPS display is good and the viewing angles that are 178 degree is perfect on all ways, the color saturation is great. The Gorilla glass covering protects the screen from the external noise and scratches. We find a great difference in case of display from the older version and we choose this for the display.

Software and Hardware Configuration :

We can choose Windows 7 or Windows 8 OS but preferably it is Windows 8 OS you can choose for having the best windows experience on the notebook. If it is Windows 7 you could go for the older version of XPS 13.

The hardware configuration is offered in four different types that you could choose based on your need and worth. The basic configuration is offered at $999 with Intel core i5-3337 processor, 4 GB RAM, 128 SSD memory and a resolution of 1366×768 p. The other configurations power HD quality resolutions with 8 GB RAM, the top model with a price tag of $1599 has a configuration of Intel Core i7-3537U and 256 SSD. The moderate configurations are as Intel Core i7-3537U with 128 SSD and Intel core i5-3337U processor with 256 SSD with different price tags. All the versions are integrated with Intel HD 4000 Graphics chip that is fine for the games and high end videos or movies.

Battery Life and Features :

The 47 WHr Lithium Ion polymer battery gives out a battery backup for 6 hours on average. The time may vary based on the type of tasks you perform but this is good for 5 hours even on heavy usage,
for moderate usage it lasts for long time.

Dell stands on top every time for its high end audio system, now it powers Waves Maxx 4 Audio technology that is awesome at sound quality and clarity. The special Maxx sense technology shows out superior performance in noise cancellation etc. to make the audio even lively.

The standard Windows 8 apps like the Internet Explorer, document editors, Maps etc. are availed along with the Dell’s pre installed apps like Kindle, McAfee, Skype and Amazon that are very useful for the users in daily use.

Call off :

For a high price tag of $1599 we would expect more from a note book like touch screen, SD card, optical drive and many more that we don’t find in Dell XPS 13. Even though we say Dell XPS 13 FHD is one of the best Windows 8 notebooks if price doesn’t matter.
