Asus Fonepad Review

Asus has launched its first tablet device that avails the feature of video calling and at the same time rear camera called Asus Fonepad. Asus has managed well to get a fully functional low budget tablet or a tablet in an affordable price. This tablet is more concerned about mobile apps and features rather than tablet features. This is one of the fully functional tablets of present days and which is similar to Nexus 7.

Design :

This large tablet or smart phone is very similar to Nexus 7 in terms of body dimensions. As like nexus 7 its body dimensions are as 7.73 inches in height, 4.73 inches in width and 0.41 inches in thickness. This big gadget due to its matte aluminum body weighs only about 340 g which is a lower weight when compared to its body dimensions.

This has a premium look that makes it feel luxurious in hand and it is comfortable to carry anywhere. The power button and volume rocker are present on the left side of the device, a head phone jack and a micro USB port are situated at the bottom of the gadget and the top is equipped with micro SIM slot and micro card slot beneath a small removable plastic strip. The placement of the power button is a little rear thing and it takes time to be accustomed with its placement.

This has a clean design with just a camera lens, a speaker grille at the bottom on the rear and the front part with a clear screen, front facing camera on the top. Except all this features we do not find any other extra buttons or feature that makes this device clumsy.

Display :

The 7.0 inch screen with IPS LCD capacitive touch display gives us a pleasant look and viewing experience. The sunlight legibility is just average and the display serves 800×1280 pixels of resolution and 216 ppi pixel density. The screen is very fond to finger prints and it gets very blemished easily. Though the display is good it doesn’t have all the advanced features or effectiveness in use.

Software and Hardware :

The tablet is installed with 4.1 Android jelly Bean Version of OS and is featured with a good collection of apps and widgets. The customizable widgets, screens and apps on the home screens make this livelier in use. The controls for home, apps, back and search are present at the bottom of the screen and they are very quick in response.

The device is powered with 1.2 GHz processor with Intel Atom ZZ420 chipset and 1 GB RAM memory that boosts up the performance. The internal memory is availed with 8 or 16 GB data storage and a micro card is availed with a memory expandable up to 32 GB of storage.

Camera :

Though it doesn’t have a large MP of camera it has a rear camera of respectable size that is 3.15 MP. Many of the users don’t feel good using such a big device to shoot or capturing pictures. For those who prefer to have some shots here is availability for snap shots with many options like Panorama mode, white balance and many more.

The video calling feature is supported by Skype with the 1.2 MP front facing camera. The facility for 720 p video capture is availed in this device that is fine in its quality.

Battery :

The 4270 mAh non-removable battery provides a strong battery backup for more than a day and half after a good number of phone calls, WI-FI access, video play back and many apps running all through the day. The strong battery gives us a boost to purchase this tablet.

Features :

This is embedded with plenty of basic and advanced apps and features in it. The connectivity features include WI-FI, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE and USB. They all are good and quick in connection and use.

The basic apps and widgets like calculator, calendar, stop watch, timer, home screens, browsers and many other settings make it more functional.
